TOPIC: position of the pop up window

position of the pop up window 1 year 6 months ago #1

I'm not happy with the new the media system in WT 1.40. I had to work many hours to move all my photos from my protected folder outside of the WT-installations into a subdirectory in the WT 1.40 data folder. My second WT-installation have now no access to the directory of the other WT-installation. That causes much more work for me how in the past. It seems, I've only two solutions: to accept how it is or to remove WT from my website.

Perhaps it has a solution for this problem. The pop up window for the photos is at the bottom of the screen and partly concealed. I must scroll to position the photo in the middle of the screen. The same for the navigation. I think large buttons for the navigation where better.

Please reply only if someone has helpful hints. I don't like destructive comments.

This is not necessary. Simply set the "Media folder" to the correct location. e.g.

../../../path/to/my/media/

This path is added to the end of your "webtrees data folder".

You can also change your webtrees data folder to any location by using a path beginning with "../".

On my development server, I have 10 webtrees installations, and they all share the same "webtrees data folder".
On my development server, I have 2 different media folders.
Some installations use the first media folder, the other installations use the second media folder.
My second WT-installation have now no access to the directory of the other WT-installation.

Yes it can. Both your webtrees installations can share the same media folder. Just specify the necessary path.

Do you see the same problem on the demo site - or just your own?

Yes, on the demo installation it works. What do I wrong with the photos?

What do I wrong with the photos?

It is difficult to guess from a screenshot. Give us a URL.

Thank you Greg for the help. I changed the path, how you suggested. Now it works fine. It's interesting, that also the photos are now placed correct in the middle of the screen. I don't know why. But it's only important, that it works now.

Just for reference, this is precisely the same advice you received earlier on another thread. As was also said, you are not forced to use the /data/media/ folder for your media, it is just no longer necessary to use a folder outside the webspace for strictly security reasons as the logic on displaying a media object changed.

Media management has been greatly simplified and large numbers of media objects made manageable since they now will display in a short period of time (not sometimes tens of minutes, but rather often less than a few seconds). Simply because we did something one way for years does not necessarily mean it was the right way. I actually remember when Roland tried to change this process in PGV, but could not do so given its reliance on non-DB procedures and had to give up. Greg has devised an excellent method which has but a few display hiccups that we will fix in short order (mostly in the use and features of Colorbox, not with the media handling itself).

Direct link works:
www.verwandten.info/wt2/mediaviewer.php?mid=M11451&ged=adel.GED

The normal link to the family books (Familienbücher) for user don't work: www.verwandten.info

My system (Joomla and both WT installations) work since many years within a frame - without problems. I want not change this. It seems the new media part of WT 1.40 have a problem with my frame and moves the photos to the bottom of the screen.

What can I do?

I think the author of colorbox will be able to help you. See this on his FAQ page:

I believe he is very helpful.

With WT 1.41 the statistics for the media objects works again.

It would be nice if the problem with the positioning of the pop up windows for photos could solved also. With WT 1.40/1.41 is the photo description unfortunately not more to see.

Otmar, can you explain what is not working? The file title is in the header of the colorbox popup window on all standard themes. Custom themes will have to be modified by their creators. I do see titles on your Colorbox windows. The NOTE tag must be viewed by seeing the image details on the mediaviewer.php page.

@Stephen

Otmar's problem is caused by embedding webtrees in an iframe (because he uses it in Joomla). Its not a new problem, although I think Brian or someone might have once-upon-a-time found a solution in the old lightbox code.

The iframe causes the pop-up window to behave differently to "normal", resulting in it showing much lower down the page. I think that is because the 'window' element of the iframe has a fixed height, necessary to reduce the likelihood of extra scrollbars appearing.

As I said in earlier posts, I believe the only solution would lie with the colorbox creator. It is not something webtrees can fix without hacking that person's code, which we should not do. I provided a link to his site where he has an FAQ dealing with the issue.

The height of the iFrame in Jomla is currently permanently set on 1400. I have already tried the setting on 100%, but the start page of webtrees appears then in a 10 cm high frame. I'm not a programmer and I know unfortunately nothing about the programming of the Colorbox. The second problem is, I want show the notes of photos (pe. information about a ship, that has brought our relatives to America, ...). Currently only to see the title of the photo.

I realise that. That is why I suggest you contact the creator of colorbox and gave you the link to do so. It is not something we can fix in webtrees. It is not a problem in webtrees, it is a problem between Joomla and colorbox.

The second problem is, I want show the notes of photos (pe. information about a ship, that has brought our relatives to America, ...). Currently only to see the title of the photo.

Sorry but this is not part of the full-size image display. As Stephen said, you can read the notes in other places, or you can include that information in the image title if you want.
