Family with parents or immediate family was created by Enigma1964
example:
Father and mother have eight children.
7 of these children are deceased, one is still alive.
On the sidebar immediate family of the father no children appear, none of the seven deceased children.

On the sidebar of the deceased children, you do not see a family with parents or immediate family.

In version 1.4.3 living children or brother/sister shown as private. In version 1.5 no longer

Why?

I'd like to know as well, I don't understand the rationale behind this.
A person and his parents are public, but because of a living sibling you cannot access any family details at all.
How would showing these like in v1.4.3 and previous versions compromise privacy of the living sibling?
I don't recall we had a discussion about this, but I could be wrong...

A family record is private if any of its members are private.

How would showing these like in v1.4.3 and previous versions compromise privacy of the living sibling?

They could easily show that the living child was illegitimate.
They could easy contain photographs of the family (including the living child).
If the 7 deceased children were all born in the same town, then it gives a strong clue as to the birthplace and birthdate of the living child.
etc.

OK, thanks for the explanation. Good to know it's a concious design decision.

For webtrees admins that want to bypass this and get back the old behaviour, you can add a Restriction fact on the Family with value Show to Visitors on all concerning families. That probably can be done with a global search & replace if you want that on each and every family.
On top of that, you could hide the Restriction fact itself from visitors at the bottom of the Privacy tab of the Admin panel of the tree.
