Local copy on Mac was created by WGroleau
I run MacOS 10.10.1.
I copied my entire site into my local web root directory after renaming Apple's index.html.en to index.html.en.orig
I edited http do.conf to enable mod_rewrite and mod_php5
Pointed Safari at 127.0.0.1, and it still serves the renamed file.
Moved the file to another directory and got what I expected. I don't see anything in httpd.conf allowing it to serve a file by that name.
Puzzled

Installed phpMyAdmin and used it to create the same user/password/DB as on my public site (so that I can use the same webtrees config file). But webtrees is unable to connect:
Code:
Access denied for user 'xxxxx'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

create the same user/password/DB

I'm guessing not *exactly* the same.

What exact use did you create? Did you create 'xxxxx'@'localhost' or perhaps 'xxxxx'@'' or something else?
What exact permissions did you assign?

In phpMyAdmin, I clicked new user. For ID, pasted the name from my webtrees config file. For password, also pasted. Offered the option to create a DB of the same name, said yes. So now DB name and user are the same as each other, and match the config file. Since password was also pasted, I assume it matches. I know port is correct, because the error is access rather than connection.

The remote will not allow me to check the privileges, but the user has ALL privileges in the local.

Doing this because I temporarily have internet only on this little iPhone. (Had to go into the nearby town to the library to download the copy of my site.)
