.gen (Genius Family Tree) to GEDCOM was created by Randal38
Received a .gen family tree and Genius Family Tree 1.63 (1993-2003) software passed down from my family.
Can I convert this to the GEDCOM file format?

Different topic: For self-hosting a family tree, my research has led me to webtrees. For collaborating and sharing my family tree with the world, my research has led me to wikitree. Is there a way for me to self-host a closed webtree software for family login only, but also contribute to something like wikitrees? And is wikitrees the "go to" for family history collaboration at the highest level?

Never heard of WikiTrees. Do you perhaps meant KiwiTrees? That is a fork of webtrees afaik.

As I understand, the last version of Genius had an export function to GEDCOM format, so you can import the data into most other programs.
Try archive.org/details/tucows_198280_Genius_Family_Tree

It is easy to host webtrees yourself. You have full control over who is allowed to do (or see) what.

stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v1.7.13

I completely forgot about trying to get the latest version through archive.org. Tucows brings back memories.

I was able to extract as a GEDCOM format. Thank you.

The website I was talking about is www.wikitree.com/
I was able to find some of my family info there that was contributed by a person who enters data from cemeteries.
I guess my question really was whether or not webtrees talks to any of these types of popular, public family trees. (wikitree, gramps, familysearch, myheritage)
