In your opinion, how optimized is webtrees for Search Engines?

I understand the nature of the beast here is that with so much information on the page, crawler indexing will be slow. However, I've had the webtrees site running for a couple weeks now, and I'm not getting much of anything on search engine referals. Should I be patient or lower my expectations?

Its very well optimised, if you set it up right. Read wiki.webtrees.net/Search_Engine_Optimization

Search engines just don't work that fast :) It also depends on how many other sites there are with similar content. I.E. You have 143 individuals with the surname Popkowitz. If there are 3 or 400 other sites with just as much Popkowitz content you will not get highly ranked very quickly. If you have the most Popkowitz related content of all the sites out there but a couple of sites have been up for 5 or 6 years they are still going to rank higher than you for a while.

This site is HEAVILY and quickly spidered. I see you have had only 7 posts and I don't know when you added you site as a link on your signature, but that helps a great deal too to get your site noticed.

Be patient and be cautious for what you ask for - a lot of bandwidth consumed:

Holy poop....

After making the changes suggested by Kiwi, and a little of patience... My webtrees site is getting eaten alive by search engines.

Literally within 72 hours of configuring my robots.txt per the Wiki... my site's traffic increased a little over 500%

Most names in my tree that I type into Google come back on the first page.

Good work webtrees team!
