Hi,

When I goes to webtrees URL, it's always on english language and I cannot find option for default language of index (start) page. I can change it clicking on Language link and selecting desired language, but I need to choose "default language" of whole site.

Can you add this option?

Thanks in advance...

When you visit the site, your web-browser tells the web-server which language to use.

I guess you have configured your browser to prefer English.

Go to your browser settings page, and change the language there.

Hmmm, that's right. And it's can be useful.

BUT, maybe you want to add option that we can set preferred language? It that not too complicate to do. Or maybe webtrees site "learn/save" last selected language - until cookie was deleted? I need this option, too...

Thanks in advance...

How will this work?

You set a a prefered language in webtrees.
Your visitor sets a prefered language in their browser.

Which language do we show to the user when they arrive?

We already use a cookie to remember the language.

But it is a session-cookie, rather than a permanent cookie.

I would like that webtrees first show language that I set up... and if unregistered user change it, cookie remember selected language on that browser.

Anyway, If user loged in, webtrees display selected language from user control panel. So, I suggest you that webtrees "learn" and display website in that language.

Thanks again fisharebest...

Maybe it would already help if it were a permanent cookie instead of a session cookie.

Sorry, but that's not really how an internationalised website should react. It should primarily serve the site in the language setup to be preferred by the users browser. What else is that user preference in the browser for?

So my suggestion is that you set your preferred language for your browser to whatever your own language is. Note that it is an ordered list, so as long as English is somewhere in the list all other websites should still serve English content to you if supported.

Originally, it was a permanent cookie.

Some users complained, because they wanted the site to return to default after they log out.
Otherwise, they felt that they had not completely logged out...

This.
