Optional: If you wish to gracefully handle visitors during the upgrade, create an offline.txt file in the root webtrees directory.
But shouldn't the file really be in the Data directory, not the root?

Thanks for all the hard work - it's really appreciated. I've just manually updated my five family trees this morning and they've all gone through smoothly. No faffing about at all.

Biggest problem is always user induced and yet again I suffered that as I left off a " in the config.ini.php for the url.
Easily fixed that and of course webtrees handled all the heavy lifting.
