Forum css update? was created by bertkoor
Please roll back the change or fix it. Doesn't work out right in portrait mode on mobiles.

Hi Bert - it wasn't just a CSS update.

The forum software has been upgraded by a couple of major versions (3.x to 5.x). We were way behind on our updates, and weren't getting security patches any more.

I'd like to thank Rob (makitso), who has put in a lot of work on this upgrade.

We are using a third-party theme with lots local modifications.

I see the problem - and I'm sure it is fixable. I'd prefer not to roll back unless we really have to.

Please clear your browser cache, FF is F5 and Chrome is shift+F5

I will look at the mobile support to see if there is something to be done.
Please be patient.

Good thing you upgrade!! Go forward indeed plz. I imagine with lots of customizations it's hard to get right first time.

The screenshot was made with Opera on mobile. Also tried with the default samsung browser i never use so nothing should be cached, it looks the same as the screenshot.

It looks totally fine in landscape. In portrait it tries to use 2/5 and 3/5 width columns instead of stacking the divs vertically. So the whole menu and items on the left of message bodies gets crammed into space where it won't fit.

I'm confident & patient...

I'd be happy (totally serious now) to send you both this t-shirt as a token of my appreciation for the work you do for webtrees:

{ I'll order it in the colour "gray" and see how it gets delivered ;-) }

OK, I just uploaded some css changes to the www.webtrees.net . It appears to work correctly with my Android mobile device.

However, I needed to go into the browser settings and clear the cache, pages and cookies, before I could get the changes.
Give me feedback please

@berkoor

Just did a major update for mobile devices. It should look better and be more functional.

Hi Rob,

I did notice, without clearing cache. Keep up the good work!

Please do claim your t-shirt. You know where to find me.
(quickly off to test some website functionality...)

Oh, there is an issue with blue background creeping in. Here's screenshots in portrait & landscape of this post:

Or is that intentional?

Oh, is it possible to reinstate the userid / password fields & login button on the Recent Topics page when rendering on mobile in portrait mode, pretty please?

There have always been two login options and I eliminated one. Does your display not have the login top right next to the language selector?

Sure there is:

1. click login link
2. click login button on dedicated login screen
3. navigate with menu back to Recent Topics

If the login block were present (hmmm, idea: display it depending on browser cookie, or let a button unhide the block) then it were just a one-click action and I would have stayed on the page where I wanted to be.

Or maybe just rotating the screen to log in is the action I have to perform ;-)

OK, I did not understand that it's a workflow issue.

@makitso: could you please also take a look at Profile > Edit.
E.g., there are long peaces of blank screen before one gets to the bottom for Save.

Links within posts are displayed as color #555 for me (in different browsers, cache cleared), which makes them hard to see.
I only get the blueish link color (#5388B4) by manipulating the css in the browser.

Or is that intentional? It seems to come from wt-forum.css, block starting at line 4.

Hmm, italic for links? That's unfamiliar. I'd prefer a different color.

Edit: Thanks, everything looks fine now.
