This is a general genealogy question.
Sorry if this is not the right place
I'm currently facing an issue to translate a German "census of the population" page
(really short)
Even I'm fluent in German, I'm not able to read the occupation of the people as the street name
In such situation how do you process ?
Many Thanks
Christian

But keep cool and continue reading these texts.
Before you wil be able to understand the handwriting of some clergymen and registrars, you have to go through many lines, if not pages, from the same clerk without immediately understanding everything.
But our brain trains quickly with the help of a few recurring letters or word fragments to be able to read the unrecognized letters.
It is important not to change the current recorder / clerk too often.
Over time, it becomes easier and easier to identify similar spellings and understand the entire text.
Especially in the same place for the contents recurring in all lines of a census.
It really becomes difficult with old documents such as notarial contracts of sale or marriage certificates before 1700.
I wish you good perseverance to learn it yourself.
Not everyone knows a good graphologist.
Good luck
Andreas
PS: As it is very short your list, here the adress and the content of the third column:
Molsheim, Sulzbad, I, Hauptstraße 30
Haushaltungsvorstand, Bäckermeister
dessen Ehefrau
Tochter
Dienstmagd
Hülfsmädchen
dessen Schwester
Both MAUPILLÉ & RAUHUT families are using webtrees V2.1.18

They also have many links to pages which give examples of old handwritings, so that you can familiarize yourself with them. You'll find that with some practice your example is actually on the rather legible side, you'll encounter much worse e.g. in older church records

Thank you very much Andreas for your advice and your help to translate the document
I will try to follow your recommendation.
Although there are some old documents I'm able to translate, but I must confess that for this one I had some difficulty
Your help was highly appreciated
Merci beaucoup !

Thank you Richard for the link, I will of course use these resources to progress and to request help if needed

This is a case where, if you can, take a good picture of the text and add it to your Source Record, maybe in the future the right person will come along. When writing the text, use an ellipsis (...) to replace the word or phrase you can’t read.
