Hi,

I know most of you are sick of the discussion regarding google maps. I understand that the google-beast is a big no-no for many of us, and i mainly prefer other alternatives.
My problem with the current OpenStreetmap is that it very often lacks details what google maps has. For example, when i try to locate more exact placenames, OpenStreetmap is mostly missing this info. What i think would be a good compromise is to have the google maps in the admin-section when pinpointing places, but for normal use, the OpenStreetmap would be the default engine.

I wonder if it would be a difficult task to upgrade the old google maps to work with Webtrees 2.x?

Did you try to activate the Google based GeoNames service in Control Panel > Map Provider?

BTW I strongly vote against implementing Google and other data collectors as a default component.

Hi Peter,

No, i have not. When i upgraded to 2.x over a year ago, I think this option did not exist at that time.

Time to make a new try with 2.x :-)
