access to a common file behind the firewall was created by Bogie
Hi,
I'm looking for a way to make a PDF file available for dedicated users of more than one family tree.
Given you have 3 trees and would like to define a guideline which is to be followed by all editors of different trees.
I just tried some ways which have disadvantages
- using a block on the edtior's my pages -> changing contents have to be c&p'ed to all blocks by masquerading as all of those users
- using a fact event with a common note -> a common note is only valid within one tree, changing contents would have to be c&p'ed between the trees
- using one file in the public folder -> could work for all trees but would be available outside the firewall
How can a file be made available for all trees which is hidden behind the firewall?

If all three trees share the same media folder, then you can create a media obect in each one that use the same media file.
Otherwise no. Trees are designed to be independent/isolated.

Thank you, Greg.
That's what I suspected and what absolutely makes sense.
So best practice supposedly would be uploading the same file to all tree folders where needed.

Another way: Put the file in the top level and put the URI where all your users will see it.
Example: UniGen.us goes to my webtrees pages. So I could upload a file to that directory and tell them to download
or in an HTML block or News block:

Thanks for your suggestion. But I intend to keep the file behind the firewall and don't want to reveal it to the public or crawlers.

Does any part of this website need to be public? This would be an important point.
