Does anyone know how to create additional information pages and a menu entry to select these pages in webtrees 2?

The add-on vytux-pages, which I use for this purpose so far (see menu entry "Info" on my page ), is not (yet) available for webtrees 2. If it remains like this, it would be a pity, as it is quite practical and easy to handle.

Or would someone have the knowledge to make this add-on fit for webtrees 2 or could help me with it?

Maybe this helps:

github.com/JustCarmen/webtrees-simple-menu

note: I make this module available as is. This means that I do not offer support on this module. Isn't it working for you? Then you're out of luck. I made it because I need it myself and everyone else can benefit from it.

Thank you very much. In a first test it works perfectly.

Maybe with this code basis I can perspectively adjust vytux-pages (several subpages in one menu).

The meta tag <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> is set by default. Is it possible to change this?

It is set by default, because most pages should not be indexed.

e.g. charts duplicate data on other pages, reports are expensive to generate, the calendar generates an infinite number of links, etc.

So it is only set to "index" on pages that should be indexed. For example, the genealogy records and the home page.

I think in the Justlight theme the meta.phtml doesn't work quite as desired.

I changed line 10 of that file in
<meta name="robots" content="<?= e($meta_robots ?? 'index,follow') ?>">.

In general: Would it be an idea to let the user decide, whether or not a paged should be crawled and indexed? Imho the main traffic is caused by the bad bots not observing meta tags at all.

> In general: Would it be an idea to let the user decide, whether or not a paged should be crawled and indexed?

Which additional page(s) would you like crawled?

(Note also that the robots: index/noindex: logic is mirrored by the sitemap module.)

> Imho the main traffic is caused by the bad bots not observing meta tags at all.

The pages with "noindex" are also designed so that bad bots cannot fetch them.

They load in two phases - the initial page loads with no content, and then javascript is used to load the actual content.

Since bad bots don't execute javascript, it means that

(a) bad bots just get an empty page that is cheap to generate
(b) real users get a faster response on these pages

I have no problems with traffic on my Strato account, so all pages may and should be indexed.

The charts, reports, calendar, etc. pages contain just this:
<h2>Pedigree chart for John Doe</h2>
<div data-url="https://url-to-generate-embedded-chart"></div>

If you allow google to index these pages, it will see your site with 1000s of empty pages with just header, title and footer.

Hi Greg, I suspect that the variables $meta_robots and $meta_description are not being used correctly in the Justlight theme. What is missing at the beginning of the meta.phtml under "use"?

Perhap this line needs to pass the (optional) meta-robots variable to meta.phtml?

Greg, you are right. I forgot to include some variables. I see an issue is filed at Github. This is indeed a bug. I will update the code.
