Some strings never get translated, either because they are not listed in the POT or because they are not called for translation.
The easiest way to find out those messages, is by selecting a non Latin language %100 translated then go over all the screens. If any non data text appears in English then it missed translation for one reason or the other.
You can use Hebrew(%100) or Arabic(%100 screen messages) for that purpose.

I found the following messages:

'OK' and 'Cancel' in all dialog boxes.

'Choose File' and 'No file chosen' in any upload function. See Admin upload media files

'To delete a file or subdirectory from the data directory select its checkbox. Click the Delete button to permanently remove the indicated files.' in admin_site_clean.php

CKEditor user interface.

Also the Time output is never transalted while the Date is. (The AM/PM and numbers always show in English, while Dates numbers shows translated)

These are part of the browser, not part of webtrees. We cannot translate these. Is this Chrome? I have seen a bug report for Chrome about the inability to translate the "choose file"/"no file chosen" messages.

'To delete a file or subdirectory from the data directory select its checkbox. Click the Delete button to permanently remove the indicated files.'

This message has been deleted since 1.2.4. Perhaps it was missed when the 1.2.4 messages were added to the translation. I will check.

Where is this. There are many places we show the time.

This message was added after 1.2.4, and deleted soon afterwards. Therefore it does not need to appear.

Yes Chrome.

Any where the time is displayed.

My page
Administration
Last changes list block in My page
...

And strange enough, AM/PM doesn't show in British English nor in Hebrew, while it does in US English and Arabic.

The easiest way to find out any untranslated message is to select Arabic or Hebrew then browse the pages because they will show in English. And by the way, I think Arabic is ready at this stage to be added at webtrees.net demo.

I think we have plans to roll out your Arabic efforts (thanks so much) for the next release, v1.2.5 in about 10 days to 2 weeks, barring major setbacks. It would be included in the demo at that time.

The reason I recommended adding the Arabic translation to the demo is that it would show webtrees' ability, because any Arab/Farsi/Urdu speaker (that is close to 800 million) who would find the site and see among the languages Farsi (Persian, the closest to Arabic). But because it is less than %25 complete, if he tries to use it, he will think webtrees can't handle such languages. At least that was my first impression.

As for including it with releases, I leave that to your judgment as long as it is always an option for any one to add it by getting the MO files from Launchpad.

We do not (yet) translate the AM/PM indicators. Until this bug is fixed, you should avoid the %A or %a placeholder in your translation of the time format.

Done. There are now translation strings for "a.m.", "p.m.", etc.

Thanks,

I think I'll need to put all the English help msgid into their Arabic msgstr untranslated for now, this way I can find new or updated messages more easily in the PO or trunk.

I found this untranslated message :

'No data available in table' in Yahrzeiten block list in My page.

<<I think I'll need to put all the English help msgid into their Arabic msgstr untranslated for now>>

I do not think this is a good idea.

1) it will make it impossible to search for untranslated messages.

2) untranslated messages are displayed in English anyway.

<<'No data available in table'>>

These messages are generated by an external library. I'll make sure they are all translated consistently...

Hello Greg,

fisharebest wrote: Done. There are now translation strings for "a.m.", "p.m.", etc.

In French, we don't usually use those. We say "8 heures, 13 heures, 22 heures, etc.". So, what translation should we put? I can't say "13 heures de l'après-midi". That would be a pleonasm.

This text will only be used if you specify "%a" or "%A" in your time format.

Since French uses the 24 hour clock, you are unlikely to see this text.

As far as I know, all French-speaking countries use the 24 hour clock.

So, it probably does not matter what values you use as it will never be displayed.

These abbreviations are actually Latin (rather than English), so perhaps it is best to leave them untranslated.

For consistency, you might like to use the corresponding latin abbreviations for noon and midnight.

before noon = a.m. (ante-meridiem)
after noon = p.m. (post-meridiem)
noon = m. (meridies)
midnight = m.n. (media nox)

<<pleonasm>>

I had to look that one up in my dictionary ;-)

Ok, I found a better way using regex search in BPeditor (scope=reference).

^((?!help_text.php|old_messages.php).)*$

This will list all messages that are neither help nor deleted. And based on BPeditor's filter can show either translated or untranslated.

Thank you for your answer.
French people may sometimes be difficult to follow... ;)))
We don't use a.m. and p.m. but we say "midi" and "minuit" for "noon" and "midnight". (grin)

You are correct, it is part of the browser, In Chrome if I change the display language from (Options/Under the hood/Web content/Languages) then those messages appear in the language chosen.
