Hello everybody,

Can anybody tell me what a "common" surname is? Is it a surname which is often used or is it a "normal" surname? Common can be translated in quite a number of different ways, to name few, a normal name, an ordinary name, an often occurring name etc.
Since I came across the following string to be translated: Min. no. of occurrences to be a "common surname" it gave me difficulties, since elsewhere there is talk of "most common surname", which was translated into Dutch as "Meest voorkomende achternaam", which is actually "most often occurring surname"
Any suggestions?

“Most often occurring” is the correct definition. That’s how webtrees calculates what is / is not “common”.You can adjust the parameters in your control panel.

Common = occurs frequently.

Most common = occurs the greatest number of times.
