Hello webtrees-developers,

I have a question regarding a regulation in EU law. It is called GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and regulates data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA). From my perspective webtrees is affected by this regulation because it is using contact and registration forms with names and e-mail addresses.

Is it planned to provide a GDPR compliant solution? I guess that nearly the half of webtrees installations are located in the European Union.

Best regards
Peter

How is webtrees not compliant?

When users sign up, they are shown the site's terms and conditions (= "welcome text").
Users can delete their accounts at any time.
Users can see all the data linked to their individual record.
Users can opt out of the user-to-user messaging system (= "contact method").

The GDPR allows you to collect personal data for "research purposes". This includes genealogy.
Of course, you must protect this personal data - and the privacy settings do this by default.

What is missing?

Hi Greg,

> How is webtrees not compliant?

When sending a contact form or a request for registration, information such as the email address and the name of the person are processed and stored. In my opinion, according to DSGVO, this process is only allowed after an explicit confirmation of the user. Users have also to be informed about in a obligatory privacy Statement, available on the website.

Best regards
Peter

Moin Peter,
ich habe es für den Bergischen Datenpool z. B. so gelöst:

Hierzu musst Du in dem Verwaltungsmodul das Custom Javascript aktivieren. Dann kannst Du den - gewünschten - Text eingeben:
//Footer
$('footer').append('</br><strong> © 2008-2018 <a href="www.bvff.de" target="_blank">BVfF</a> - Hans-Joachim Lünenschloß - Alle Rechte vorbehalten. - <a href="www.bvff.de/impressum" target="_blank">Impressum</a> - <a href="www.bvff.de/datenschutz" target="_blank">Datenschutz</a></strong></br></br>');

Das hatte ich schon für PHPGedView ergänzt, wo es einfacher funktionierte. Greg hatte mir dann geholfen es in webtrees einzustellen.
Best regards
Hans-Joachim (Lünenschloß)
