I am going to donate a new webtrees report module displaying (or just generating a file of) the full vertical tree for print. It could be based i.e. on "interactive tree", but should
- expand all ancestors and descendants of everyone in database
- display more details by persons and families (place of born/death, wedding summary, comments) in a smart way (aligned although some data are not filled)
- allow definable print/export size/dpi (huge formats expected)
- prevent duplicity (i.e. by more partners in families, marriages of relatives)

Is somebody able to implement it?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I am not able to write it. Just one comment:

It seems to be a niceidea. But did you ever think about the amount of CPU, time and (data/file) space this would need? This would grow exponentially with the number of individuals. In my database I have more than 93.000 persons !
Regards
Helmut

It should be a report that is not for daily work but for execution one time per years. Nevertheless it can count necessary place on storage or has some custom limits. Also it can store data localy or be a separate application installed on local machine connected to webtrees database. I guess that computer performance is not problem at this modern age.

Why do you not use a separate locally installed program?

It is complicated too.
1) find some sw that provides huge reports displaying such informations
2) import correctly all data from webtrees including images, shared comments, etc.

When you said you wanted to donate, I thought you had the code finished :-)

2. Should not be a problem IF the software is compliant to the gedcom standards. Most programs are, but in a variable degree. webtrees is quite good at this.

1. Such reports have shown to be quite impractical in trees that exceed non-trivial ones. Too much information, requiring more than 2 dimensions...

Good luck...

A very powerful program could be Stammbaumdrucker.

Stammbaumdrucker seems to be very good! It really generated full tree. I am afraid many relations were lost by GEDCOM import and also all media information. I will try it more times.
Thank you.

Anyway I would pay for such possibility in WebTrees.

Do you need a web hosting solution for your webtrees site?
If you prefer a host that specialises in webtrees, the following page lists some suppliers able to provide one for you:

Still not solved. :-(

I tried several recommended software without success.
- Stammbaumdrucker 8 Premium generates chart of all individuals, but even if I set myself as start person, my grandparents are in two secluded trees without any connection or explaining comment. Some persons are displayed more times.
- TreeDraw 4 does not provide all relations tree.
- Family Historian 6.2 has the best visual result, but also displays some individuals more times, but at least with connection line. Nevertheless there are 2 same subtrees of about 50 individuals in my chart. Also it shows related to the initial person only, but i.e. my all-relation-tree do not include any related individual of my wife (inluding her parents)!

I tried 3D-Family-Tree just now. It fails when loading many generations. Anyhow I do not find it useful for print due to overlapping layers. Also it generates one way tree only (ancestors and descendants).

Is that because they are the grandparents of cousins that married?
Example from my tree: stamboom.bertkoor.nl/module.php?mod=ance...d=I3170&ged=BertKoor

What would you suggest to prevent that? How to better visualise it? Is that also possible if this occurred more than once, in many generations?

That issue would be solved by making a report based on your (imagininary) child (or pet), not?

Perhaps you need to indicate how much you want to “donate” for such a development, to attract some serious interest? I suspect it would need need to be substantial for such an incredibly complex and demanding specification. Even an approximate amount would confirm how serious you are, and how well you understand how difficult the work would be.

My idea was to extend some existing Webtrees' module such as interactive tree ot glasshour tree to display all individuals. In fact it means to continue to next relation in both directions from each node, allow vertical orientation and do not stop on limited generation count. This part would not be so complicated.
The problem is to solve duplicate nodes and recursions. And finaly implement some printing intelligence.

I expect it will increase the value of webtrees product, so more community users and developers could be interested to contribute.
I supposed about up to $700 for the first part (as described above) without printing intelligence. I would be probably able to extend a module by myself, but I thought it would be better when someboby skilled in it can do it. Also I am not sure whether such module extension is suitable for large prints. That is why I asked for complete solution and I am open to all ideas, including use other software if it already exists.
