Hi
Could it be an opportunity to make interactive access to Familysearch in the style of the one found in, for example, Legasy.
that is, the ability to search and compare data in webtrees with data on the Familysearch direct from webtrees.
I realize that it obviously requires the account on Familysearch

If not yet known:

For wt V1.7 there is an add-on from JustCarmen ( justcarmen.nl/fancy-modules/fancy-research-links/ ), but I have been getting an error message when calling "FamilySearch" for a long time. The other search masks (which I use) work!

As far as I know, there is no current version for wt V2 ( see here ).
@JustCarmen: Thanks for your great tools and themes!

It's a menu of shortcuts, what I mean is a direct data exchange upload and download to and from Family Search

Okay, this is completely different from what Fancy-Research-Links offers.

It's a menu of shortcuts

Yes and no. It uses by standard the 'active' users name as search criteria, but you can adjust easily the search critera by yourself. So it's not only a shortcut menu.

I imagine it refers to the FamilySearch API program ... see: www.familysearch.org/developers/docs/api/resources

I've done the very primitive thing of adding a Note in Ancestry with some markdown text:
Links:
* [Ancestry](https://www.ancestry.com/family-tree/person/tree/76184294/person/38334057572/facts)
* [FamilySearch](https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LHZR-K61)

When I select the Notes tab on an Individual in webtrees it shows the nice links to Ancestry, FamilySearch, etc.

What I really want, though, is (a) to have an icon (i.e., the Ancestry or FamilySearch logo) appear on the Individual page if there's a note like this (or a better way of representing it in Ancestry->GEDCOM->webtrees) and (b) HTML frames that when I navigate in webtrees to a person with an Ancestry or FamilySearch link it navigates to those pages in other frames, thus showing me everything at once.

(Can you tell I have a very large screen? It's wonderful!)

Any suggestions on how to accomplish (a) and/or (b)? I'm a programmer but am new to webtrees and have zero knowledge of PHP and haven't yet stared at enough of the source code to begin to understand it.

[First time post. Thanks for a wonderful system! I've been dreaming of something like it for a decade and somehow didn't discover it until a few months ago.]

@edsch: If you are a programmer, one option is to create a module for this.

Firstly you need to store the link. In GEDCOM a candidate solution would be a SOURce record that contains the URL.
Then for displaying data you could go for a new tab on the persons page.
Or redesign the page all together, then you'd have to make a custom theme for webtrees.
stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v1.7.13

Hi Ed,

Source citations (GEDCOM "PAGE" fields) that contain URLs are automatically converted to links.

So, you can create sources for "Ancestry" and "Family Search", and use the URL in the citation field.
1 SOUR @X...@
2 PAGE https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LHZR-K61

This is all standard GEDCOM format.

Next, there is some example code which modifies the behaviour when you click on an external link.

webtrees.net/faq/target

Write some JavaScript that says "if URL starts with ancestry.com then open the link in a frame".

Do you need a web hosting solution for your webtrees site?
If you prefer a host that specialises in webtrees, the following page lists some suppliers able to provide one for you:
