My proposal requires a new field in table wt_settings : SMTP_DISP_NAME containing the display-name defined by an administrator.

Addition - this proposal is usable in 2 cases where a global mail-address and display-name can be used:
- one webtrees instance only holds one tree
- the administrator uses a sender-mail-address and -display-name not associated with any maintained tree.

In fact there is only one global mail-address available to send mails.
Each tree contains a non-reply address (wt_gedcom_setting.WEBTREES_EMAIL) but I could not find out where it is set or used.

Greg commented last year:
"We must send emails when there is no tree (e.g. password reset on private sites)
We must send emails from multiple trees (e.g. notification of pending changes)
We must send emails when no tree is selected (e.g. messages sent from the control panel)

So we must have something that is not linked to a tree."
