I'm running version 1.7.16 and at some stage in the past I've created (presumably) or it was created by a bug or some such a child attached to a family that has a name of " ... ... " and for the life of me I can't find out how to delete this.

Can someone kindly give me the idiots guide to doing so - thanks.

Pretty sure I've never seen a screen like that...

Here's a normal name screenshot showing the white arrow next to the name which reveals the edit / delete icons and then one of the weird name ....

That delete button does not delete the individual - it deletes the **name** of the individual.

You still have the individual - but they now have no name.

webtrees uses "..." for an unknown given name and "..." for an unknown surname.

To delete the individual, use the main menu option, as shown by bertkoor.

BTW - using "..." like this for missing names is mentioned in the GEDCOM spec).

BTW - Yes, it is confusing to have an "edit" menu mixed in with the other "navigation" menus. This is why it got moved in webtrees 2

Apologies for my slow response but been distracted by an illness.

OK - I understand what you are saying and whilst I don't recall creating a user like that or even in deleting their name to leave it end up like that it has happened. What I'm not getting and pointed out in my first response above is how and where I delete that 'malformed' person. Is that screenshot from v2? If so, then that's why I don't recognise is as I'm still on v1.7.16 - after I sort this, I was going to look at a migration / upgrade to v2.

So, I haven't seen the edit / delete menu and would appreciate a step by step (aka my idiots guide) to how I find that for this person?

Many thanks.

p.s. I have found an 'Extra Info' drop down that allows me to delete the 'Unique Identifier' - is it this I need to click?

The screenshot in post #2 shows this.

> Is that screenshot from v2?

No. That's definitely a screenshot from 1.7

(In 2.0, this edit menu was moved to somewhere a bit more prominent).

Do you see the "Edit" menu? It may look slightly different, depending on which theme you use.

If you don't see it, then go to control panel, modules, module administration.
Find the entry for "Edit".
If it is not enabled, then select it and click save.

OK - now sorted and that 'person' has been deleted, so thank you.

For the record: Edit module was enabled and I'm running what I think is the default theme (webtrees). I couldn't see the menu until I un-ticked EDIT, saved and then re-ticked and re-saved. Once I did that I had an edit menu. Odd, but we got there.

I attempted to delete a duplicate record and now my database seems to be broken. All of the formatting is gone, there are hyperlinks for the names and when I click on one, the boxes and appearance that was there before is gone. I went into the changes and rejected the change, hoping it would return to normal but no luck.

I don't know if this has anything to do with my issue but every time I attempt to upgrade to 1.7.17, I get a message that a zip file couldn't be opened. The message is as follows: Unzip webtrees-1.7.17.zip to a temporary folder…
An error occurred when unzipping the file.
PCLZIP_ERR_BAD_FORMAT (-10) : Unable to find End of Central Dir Record signature
