Hello

How to configure Webtrees to send messages?

I am using Webtrees 1.7.18.
On server I can use PHP 5.2, 5.3, or 5.4
In configuration I have:
"Website->Sending e-mail->Messages :" "Use PHP mail to send messages"

At the bottom of the main page is
"For technical support or genealogy questions contact Admin Tree."
When I click on the Admin Tree, a form appears.
I send the message.
In the logs in "Website->Website logs" there is:
error Mail: escapeshellcmd() has been disabled for security reasons
error Unable to send a message. FROM:someone@mail.server.pl TO:My-username (failed to send)

When I set in the configuration
"Website->Sending e-mail->Messages :" "Use SMTP to send messages"
after sending the message
in the logs in "Website->Website logs" there is:
error Mail: stream_set_blocking() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given
error Unable to send a message. FROM:someone@mail.server.pl TO:My-username (failed to send)

Regards

> Use PHP mail to send messages

"PHP mail" means to use whatever is configured in your PHP.INI file - and always report "success" - even if the message was not sent.

So, if your server is not correctly configured, then mail will not be sent, and we can never detect this.

Also, PHP mail has security issues that cannot be fixed. You should not use it.

> error Mail: escapeshellcmd() has been disabled for security reasons

This command has absolutely no security implications, and there is no reason for your webhost to block it...

> error Mail: stream_set_blocking() expects parameter 1 to be resource, null given

This probably indicates that your host has blocked some other system functions that are required to send mail.

Thank you very much for your answer.
I have used different mail servers and it is the same everywhere.
Is there any free mail server?
In the case of gmail it is the same.

Root cause is your host config, not the server it sends mail with.
Your best bet is to raise a support issue with your hosting provider.
stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v1.7.13
