How was this solved? It's a nice add-on to have.

Agreed -- I guess "Closed" would be more appropriate.
I am using WebTrees as a subsite anyway -- so that was not that much of an issue for me.
I added Forums to my main WordPress site. I understand your frustration however...since it is used here on the site...I'd be willing to pay/donate for it even.

about two weeks ago I went finished setting things up -- and I have been waiting for my brother to test things.

You can visit my main site below.
alveslaborefamily.net/

or the WebTrees (sub-site of above)
alveslaborefamily.net/wt2.0.0/tree/alveslaborefamily

It is more complicated than this.

Technically, it is easy to use OAUTH or another login provider.

But in webtrees, a login gives you nothing. You also need access-permissions for each tree. (member/editor/moderator/etc.)

So it is possible to create/manage user accounts in webtrees - and allow logins from other services.

But it is not possible to allow the "other service" to be responsible for account creation/management.

Yes, you can also use webtrees as the server and other programs as the client. Allow webtrees user sign in other services.
