Good afternoon: Please forgive me if this question has already been asked, I did a quick search and turned up nothing.

I installed Webtrees on my webserver, which I access locally via IP address - http://192.168.11.11/ for example, I wanted to be able to access Webtrees externally at my fully qualified domain name (the same server) but www.whatever.com

When I tried to access it externally it was returning an error that it was unable to locate the file at 192.168.11.11.

Where can I change this setting so it points to the proper domain name?

Edit the file data/config.ini.php

Update the entry for base_url.

See webtrees.net/faq/config-ini-php for a description of this file.

Oh my - I love this software already if all the support is this fast!

I haven't done any tree work since 2012 but some family members have recently requested access to my databases - so this will work perfect.

I have verified your suggestion worked but I now I need to figure out my own issues - my domain works from outside my network, but I can't access it from inside; I need to access it via the internal IP - ugh. Always something.

You can fix this by adding an entry to your system's host file.

192.168.11.11 www.example.com

On mac/linux, this file is /etc/hosts
On windows, it is something like C:/sysem32/drivers/etc/hosts

Now, when you visit www.example.com in your browser, it will be fetched from the local IP address.

You may need to clear your DNS cache or restart the service (or just reboot!) for this change to take effect.
