The last few months I was configuring webtrees and importing a good gedcom file.
Today I try to add the parents to an individual. On the tab Families I am going to
Link this individual to an existing family as a child. When I enter the last name of the mother, I see a list which contains four times the name of the father and the mother.
I am sure the parents are once in the gedcom. I also cleaned up the data folder.
Which name do I have to choose? Why are the parents listed four times?

Best regards,
Guido

if you go over with your mouse pointer, are the XREFs the same?

If not, you have multiple persons in the gedcom with the same name.

At this point there are no XREF's visible:

I am very sure there are no other couples (parents) with the same name.

One of the parents have more than one name tag, thus listed twice.
You can choose any of them, the family (XREF) will be the same

To sort the results *and* remove duplicates, we would need to fetch all the records from the database - which would be too slow to use in autocomplete.

This is because individuals can have many names.

If we sort by name, we will have duplicates. e.g. If someone has two names "John /Black/" and "John /White/", and we search for "John", then we must show them twice - under "B" and "W".

Also, the search results show the "prefered" name of an individual - not the data found in our search indexes. So we will display "John Black" twice.

I can easily remove duplicates - but the results will be unsorted.
