After installation of 2.04
what does it mean " provide the username" at the control panel

Use the GeoNames database for autocomplete on places

The website www.geonames.org provides a large database of place names.
This can be searched when entering new places. To use this feature, you must register for a free account at www.geonames.org and provide the username.

Is it only the username (at genomes.org) to put in the line?

1/ After entering the user name is it ok?
2/ May I ask, now what if I want to put this position on the homepage?

Help?

The last time I looked at your website, nguoiveday, you have nowhere written down the place of an event. Even dates are sparse in your data, at best only the year.
You first need to record the places of events like birth, marriage, death, perhaps add facts like residence and occupation. Then geographical information becomes available.

Without data there is nothing to show.

1/ After entering the user name is it ok?
2/ May I ask, now what if I want to put this position on the homepage?

Your first question, to me that reads as you ask gdickm for confirmation whether it has helped him.
Greg said it should suffice. Have you tried that? What is actually wrong now?

Your second question is not clear at all. What is "this position"?
I personally never saw a map on the homepage of webtrees that was not simply a static picture.
As far as I know there is no method in webtrees to do that.

It would be an interesting module. Start with a recent person or proband, plot on the map where he has born, has lived and died. Then with a slider move generations back & forth so you see the same data of ancestors & descendants.

I am busy trying to geocode my database, but I cannot get the automatic coding to work despite registering for an api key on the geonames.org website and activating the web api switch. I've also selected the 'OpenStreetMap' option on the 'Map Provider' tab and supplied my geonames username.

I've even manually configured a request in a browser and confirmed a valid api response.

Any ideas ?

geonames.org is used to auto-complete place names.
I registered my GeoNames account and filled it in to webrees, but there seems to be no change. What's the matter?
