Hi fellow genealogists,

the time has come to publish the findings of my research-efforts. I decided to use webtrees for publishing. But, as usual with new programms, on my first import I ran into difficulties. :-(

can someone please advice me, if this is a problem with my GEDCOM-file (exported from Familiy Tree Builder) or if it is a bug with webtrees 2.06?

Thanks in advance, Lars.

It is both!

Your GEDCOM file contains this "place name":

German: variant of Joachim. MENK- • Joachim • Joachimczyk • Joachims • Joachimsen • Joachimsohn • Joachimssen • Joachimssohn • Joachimsthal • Jochem • Jochemczyk • Jochim • Jochimczyk • Jochimsohn • Jochimsthal •

1) this is not a placename!
2) GEDCOM says that each part of a placename should be less than 120 characters.

But this is also a bug. webtrees should work with invalid data.

A valid GEDCOM place record would look something like this:

2 PLAC Waldgirmes, Lahnau, Lahn-Dill-Kreis, Hessen, Germany

Thx, then I'll have to find out, where this mix-up happens. This record really should not exist with such content at all!

Glad that it also shows a bug that you can fix ;-)

Lars

Edit #1: regarding the "bug"; I opened a issue at github
Edit #2: Found the faulty record around the year 1500. Now the import works flawlessly.
