Bonjour

Cordialement

You can replace resources/img/watermark.png with your own watermark

taking advantage of the topic, I take the opportunity to leave a suggestion for future implementations:
It would be nice if a page of customizations could be created on the control panel where you could insert things like: watermark image; logo; icon (favicon); meta tags; and other things like ...

In 1.XX there was no png file. Only text (family tree title) was used for watermarking.
To change the watermark in 2.XX, you will have to create your own watermark.png

> Pourquoi avoir changé ça ?

It was changed because it is only possible to add latin text to images.
We also need to support sites that use greek, cyrillic, arabic, hebrew, chinese, etc.

It is also difficult to add text to small / thumbnail images.

OK !

A "decisions not options" philosophy generally helps to reduce the complexity of the product and the number of errors that usually arise from complexity.

The more options the more complex it gets. The number of potential combinations which arise from multiple options can grow exponentially which renders it impossible to test all combinations which then results in too many errors. It further increases the maintenance efforts significantly until it finally renders the product unmanageable so that developers and users turn away from it.

I understand your point, but I disagree.
well done parameterizations do not increase the product complexity so much. And it is better to have a standardized product with the defined parameters to meet the specific needs, than to have the majority of users having to resort to modifications in the code, creation of plugins, etc. to meet those needs ...

It's ok to disagree with a philosophy and by the way I didn't say "no options", but "the more options the more complex it gets".

No. I am observing all the requests for additional features and options and I see the challenges for the developers who do this in their free time.

I was managing software development teams and I *think* I know the pitfalls.

Thanks for your comments, SirPeter.

Adding text watermarks is straightforward.
99% of the code already exists.
You'd just need a few lines of code to create the overlay file from text.

However, the configuration options for watermarks could get quite complicated.

Images? Need to select/upload an image
Text? Select font and colour

Size? Opacity? Position? ...?

We'd probably need a "live-preview" for all of this.

Then there is the question of whether these settings are for the entire site, or for each tree.

We will need to present these options in a way that does not overwhelm the average user.
Many will not care, and want it to "just work".

Then there are also requests for more options to control which images get watermarks.
At present, we add them based on user's access level.
Others want to add them based on media type or folder .

Once this is done, all the text will need to be translated into 60 languages.

Difficult? No. But probably not the best use of my time.

I need to rewrite the watermark code anyhow. It uses a package ( glide ) that is largely abandoned. I need to use the underlying graphics library ( intervention ) directly. I will create a "pluggable" interface for this, to make it easy for modules to create their own watermarks, using their own logic.

There is no need to complicate this much from the start. at first it could only have an image upload, and have those images that can be customized as favicon, watermark, logo, etc., inside the 'data' folder to facilitate version updates. Today when the person updates the version they have to change all that again.

A possibility not to override favicons, watermark with an update would be a realy good feature. Or to add a possibiolity to add an "user update" wich would copy specific files from the data folder to correct place.

Filigrane - Watermark - favicon 1 week 6 days ago #16

Somewhere I saw an instruction how to change all favicon from the "w" to a user defined one. It seems rather complicated for me.
So I tried by changing them manually via ftp. But they are many and it doesn't seem to really work.
I would be very happy to get simply instruction how to change them in a way, so they are not changed back by the next update. Putting them in a extra dir and...
Thanks!

Bien...

Amicalement
