Updates of custom modules was created by Peter_S
Is it possible to consider dependencies to the webtrees version when checking for updates of custom modules? It happened to me, for example, that I loaded the Vesta modules 2.0.9 to webtrees 2.0.7, which led to errors due to the incompatibility of the two versions.

Often a reference in the control panel to an already released webtrees version is only made after 2 days. In this case a new button in the control panel would be desirable, which triggers a new check. Today I can only achieve this by deleting the entry 'LATEST_WT_VERSION_TIMESTAMP' in the database manually.

Another good feature would be if updates of custom modules could be done in the same way as webtrees updates via the control panel.
Today I am forced to upload the latest versions via FTP.

Carmen & Richard already pushed it: Fr: link to new release of custom module #3543

Is this what you wanted?

Only the "Update-Updater-Button" is missing.

Yes, the request sounds good and covers the requirements. This kind of support for custom modules is in my opinion a big step towards customer satisfaction. Now it just needs to be implemented.

@Greg, what's your opinion?

Yes, this is needed.

But we must be careful to get the design correct.

Well, then let's discuss the design and then implement a solution. I offered to do this.

I see this as two separate features: First, we need additional information from custom modules about their compatibility. We should display this information so that the webtrees admin can decide better what to upgrade.

Later, we also could use this information for updates of custom modules within webtrees. This part seems more complicated. I suggest to split the two features and for now only implement the first one. Otherwise, we'll end up with a feature request pending for a long time - we have enough of those already!

Is such a feature (issue 3543) in the pipeline for version 2.1.0?

Best regards, Peter

Three month ago I asked for the status of issue 3543. I didn‘t get an answer here. As I can see in GitHub the issue was closed 6 weeks ago.
Does this mean, the solution is part of 2.1?

What we need is dependency-management, self-updating, etc.
This would be a lot of work.

What we have in #3543 is a notification when updates exist, and a link to download them.
