How to fix sorting Fact and events? 1 month 1 week ago #1

Sometimes (very rarely) I have an issue with the sorting in the Facts and events pane.

Normal presentation is BIRT/OCCU/MARR/DEAT.

But sometimes it happens that OCCU is sorted at the top (OCCU/BIRT/MARR/DEAT).

Here's the raw GEDCOM part:

0 @I6125@ INDI
1 NAME xxxxxxx /xxxxxxxxxxxx/
1 SEX M
1 BIRT
2 DATE xx xxx xxxx
2 PLAC xxxxxxxxxxx
1 FAMS @xxxxx@
1 FAMC @xxxxx@
1 OCCU xxxxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxxx
1 DEAT
2 DATE xx xxx xxxx
2 PLAC xxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxx xxxxxx, xxxxxxxxx, xxxxxxxxx xxxxxx

Any ideas how to fix this?

Did you try to add a 2 DATE tag to the 1 OCCU tag? If you don't know the exact date you can use about, before, after, between, estimated. See pages 46-48 of the GEDCOM 5.5.1 specification .

Sir Peter, thank you for your reply.

If I add a date, the sorting is fine, if I remove it the problem is back.

And if I add the indivual with his wife and child to a Clipping chart, and import the clippings.ged into a new tree, the sorting is fine.
So it seems to be a database problem.

But when I exported the complete tree and imported it into a new tree, the sorting problem with this individual is back.

Any ideas how to fix this?

No idea, sorry. I guess it's code related not database related.

Are you able to create a minimal GEDCOM file that illustrates the problem?

e.g. use the clippings cart to copy the individual (and family members).

Then delete all the names, sources, and other irrelevant facts.

I have never seen this, and it will be hard to fix without being able to reproduce it.

If I change the father's DEAT to 1819 or later, or delete it, the son's facts will be sorted correctly!

So there seems to be a relation between the DATE of the father's DEAT and the son's BIRT.

And I suppose it's related to this issue (which I couldn't reproduce in the past).

I have been assessing V2 over the last few months and a couple of days ago I made V2.0.15 live. I have waited to going live to raise a couple of issues. One issue relates to this topic. A look at the attached screen snip will show an instance of this sorting problem.

I have now spent some time discussing and investigating this problem with my son. Having regard to the request from Greg above, we have completed various downloads and uploads of Gedcom clippings into a test family tree. This error was not replicated with any of the Gedcoms uploaded to the Test tree. That is all Facts/Events were sorted and displayed in the correct order.

We have also looked at the "dates" table in the database and selected all records for the relevant individual (d_gid). The dates for all the Facts/Events (d_fact) are correct in the table. There appears to be no errors in the "dates" table database. The error seems to be coming from somewhere other than from the Gedcom related to the specific individual and his family. We therefore have been of little help in isolating the cause of the error shown in the above screen snip.
