What do you mean with "did not work" ?I did the same as you but it didn't work.
The page faq/500 advices:
Generally when a fatal error occurs, the web-server will write a detailed error message to a log file. You need to find this error log. Without it, it will be very difficult to fix the problem.
Did you find any server logs with errors?
Does your server perhaps use .htaccess files?
Then you can get some extra information on screen by following the FAQ instructions.
Sorry, where did you click? Also, at that time, click to update to the new version 2016.
I'm totally confused. What exactly did you do? Is your problem still there?
Could you please write longer sentences with more detailed information.
Perhaps even write in your own language, so it is easier for you to write.
We will use translation services if nescessary.

When requesting the webtrees page with https protocol, your server redirects back to http protocol.
Then with http protocol the server always responds with nothing.
Edit the file data/config.ini.php on the server
You have this line:
Change http to https

The server responds with nothing, just a http response code 200.
I would expect a response code 302 (redirect) with a new location.
This even happens when you explicitly ask for the index.php page or any other page.
The last call should respond with a 404 - not found.
Your server responds with 200 - OK.
That is obviously not OK.
Whatever you recently changed on the server, undo that.

Try to do the opposite of what you did the last days. Because it seemed to process a little bit a week ago.
Or ask your hosting provider for help.
