osMap offers online maps in nine different languages based on data by OpenStreetMap contributors licensed under an Open Data Commons Open Database Licence (ODbL).

Is it possible to use osMap instead of OpenStreetMap as map provider in webtrees?
- webtrees 2.0.19 (not 2.0.23 because missing fix for too strict markdown implementation):
PHP 7.4.29 | modules: Rural theme, Vesta Classic Look & Feel, Extended Family, Fancy Research Links, Family Tree Home Page, ℍ&ℍwt MultTreeView
- testing webtrees 2.1.2

Why do you like to use osMap instead of OpenStreetMap. osMap is based on the same data.

>Why do you like to use osMap instead of OpenStreetMap
Because OpenStreetMap defaults to the local or official language in each part of the world.
That's why it shows names in China in Chinese characters, which I do not understand.

osMap shows names of countries, regions and major capitals in my own language.

wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OsMap

osMap is a group of OSM Carto -style world maps in one language. Unlike osm.org, where the map is in the local language of the country or region. It serves ten different versions with name displays in Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese and Spanish. Transliteration and fallbacks are used if no name:xx tag is available in the said language.

Is it possible to use osMap instead of OpenStreetMap as map provider in webtrees?
Or does anyone know a workaround to affect the local languages shown in OSM (e.g. Latin script)?
For places in Russia or China it is impossible for me to identify them because I am not able to read Cyrillic or Chinese characters.

When I call OpenStreetMap in the browser with the top-level domain "de", then the maps are displayed in German style.
Is a similar procedure also possible from webtrees?

Not exactly answering your question but webtrees 2.1 comes with the ability to select map providers on the fly. Providers are:-
Bing
Esri/Arcgis
Google
Here
Mapbox
OpenStreetMap
Ordnance Survey historic maps (UK only)

Note: only a subset of the available tilesets are generally available, however, if an unsupported tileset is required it is usually quite simple to add (does require some programming ability so a feature request is probably the way to go)

Attached are examples using Here maps terrain and Mapbox outdoors
