"My aunt told me"... so the source of a fact in the tree is my aunt, a person in the family tree.

What is the right way to point this source into my tree?

Best regards,
Marianne

For this case I use a souce „Zeitzeugen (mündlich)“ and as source citation the name und the date of the oral information. But it's just an idea.

That is one possibility. I created for each person that told me something a source for this person.
0 @S1@ SOUR
1 TITL persönlich - Hartenthaler, Martha
1 AUTH Martha Hartenthaler
1 NOTE @N43892@
1 NOTE siehe @I106@

The first note is shared note that could categorize all such sources of the type "someone told me". The second note is a link to that person, that works in webtrees, but that is not recommended because it use a XREF that is maybe not valid if you export/import your tree.

The specific information about what and when something was told to me is in the source citation as mp has said already.

1 NATI portugiesisch
2 SOUR @S1@
3 DATA
4 DATE SEP 2022
4 TEXT Sie meint, dass sie sich erinnert, dass sie aus Portugal stammt.

My question is compiled wrong, I'm sorry.
"My aunt told me...", so the source is my aunt.
I want to store
@I1@ INDI
1 NAME Mary /Doe/
2 NOTE My aunt
...
0 @S1@ SOUR
1 NAME @I1@

This is incorrect gedcom syntax. How can I link to my aunt's INDI record?

No, can’t do that! You are inventing a Source_Record tag that does not exist.

This is the answer:

0 @S1@ SOUR
1 TITL Personal Interview - <your aunts name>
1 AUTH <your aunts name>

The only way to reference the source interviewee (your aunt) would be in a NOTE, but not with a direct XREF link!

Because XREF links are not used in these cases, this is why I have given every person in my database a unique external identifier I call an “Accession Number” that is automatically assigned in webtrees v2.0. Then this number can be referenced in a NOTE and searched in the system.

Don’t know if it still exists but it used to be possible enter an xref in the AUTH tag to link to an individual. A very useful, if invalid GEDCOM entry.

I am testing Gedcom 7. Your syntax isn't valid. I tried some more and it seems only

1 AUTH Aunt Jane

is valid. No cross reference, no subordinate tags, etc. I tried an additional line

2 INDI @I123456@

but doesn't work...

Temporarily solution:

1 AUTH Aunt Jane - I123456

so I can change to that individual ID manual.

Marianne,

A couple of comments, if you need help with GEDCOM v7.0:.

1) You should note in your message title "GEDCOM v7.0 Help", not all answers in GEDCOM v5.5.1 will work in v7.0!
2) It might be better to ask at the "Discussion Page" of the GEDCOM 7.0 committee, you asked a question there a while ago and I answered it there, but you did not respond to my answer so I'm not sure if you saw the comment!
3) Have you read the GEDCOM v7.0 specification ? Many of the questions you ask can be answered reading the document.
4) What program are you using that generates these GEDCOM v7.0 statement or are you just trying out different stuff without checking the specification?

I'm happy to help you when I can. Most webtrees users are not up to speed in v7.0 so not everyone can answer your questions here.

You said:

I don't think this is the best solution, XREF IDs can change in some circumstances so using the reference will not always work in the future except in cases where the XREF ID is managed by the generalogy application you are using.
