I have my data in Aldfaer and do an export to a gedcom file. That I import in webtrees. Now I have names like "Oost Indië" in the gedcom and that changes to "Oost IndiÙ".
PHP is UTF8. How to get the right characters imported? My langage setting is Dutch.

The import page has an option to specify the text encoding.

Try selecting a different one?

I have 2 websites, on one ISO-8859-1 works and on the other I get a message "no valid headerrecord found" if I specify someting different from UTF-8.
They run both on the same server, in another VM.

Problem solved. The one that worked with the import was made on another pc and the settings for the gedcom export in Aldfaer were different.
That pc had ANSI and this pc had UTF-8, as seen in the header from the gedcom file.
So I now know that there are things to adjust that I was not aware of.
Maybe I should set everyting to UTF-8.
edit:UTF-8 has the advantage that "automatic" setting with the import works.
