When I have to download a Gedcom, I always use the left pane (save the file on the server and then copy it from the server to my computer. No problems at all.
Today I tried to download a Gedcom using the right pane and want to save it on my computer.
Because my file is prepared for Gedcom 7, I saved the file as Unicode file.
When I open the file in Notepad++ I see NUL after each character.

The file downloaded on the first way is 57 MB. The file downloaded on the second is 115 MB.

What is going wrong?

Best regards,
Marianne

You should not select "Unicode". UTF-8 is used by GEDCOM 5.5.1 and GEDCOM 7.

When I edit my Gedcom I am using Gedcom 7. So, the imported file is Gedcom 7. When I export my tree to a Gedcom it has the header of 5.5.1, but the syntaxis of 7.0 (it breaks the long texts using CONC, etc.)
BTW: does webtrees has an option to export to Gedcom 7?

At the moment webtrees is using GEDCOM 5.5.1 in the exported header in the GEDCOM file. There is no option in webtrees to choose if the header has to be generated in GEDCOM format 5.5.1 or 7.0. There is a custom module for that: DownloadGedcomWithURL
