email settings with gmail ? was created by gt13013
Hello,
I am turning crazy with the email. I have tried to change almost everything, 2 different email providers, several ports, password encryption, etc...
But I do not success to get the email working.
Can somebody with gmail working in webtrees tell me what should I change in my settings?
Here are the last settings that I have tested:

===============
Administration > Site configuration > tab "Site configuration" :
Allow messages to be stored online: yes

Administration > Site configuration > tab "Mail configuration" :
Messages: Use SMTP to send messages
Outgoing server (SMTP) name: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP port: 465
Use password: yes
Username: me
Password: xxxxx
Secure connection: tls
From email address: me@gmail.com
Sender email address: me@gmail.com

Administration > Family trees > my family tree > tab General > section Contact information :
webtrees reply address : me@gmail.com
Genealogy contact : my webtrees user account
Technical help contact: my webtrees user account

Administration > Users > my webtrees user account
Email : me@gmail.com
===============

With these settings, if somebody wants to contact me from the bottom of the webtrees page "For technical support or genealogy questions, please contact ....", I get the message in "My page" when connecting to webtrees, but no message in my standard gmail mailbox.

Moreover, if somebody wants to ask for an account, that fails, and shows the following message:
Code:
Language string failed to load: tls Le message n’a pas été envoyé Erreur expéditeur: Language string failed to load: tls Language string failed to load: tls Le message n’a pas été envoyé Erreur expéditeur: Language string failed to load: tls
You can see a screencopy here

Thanks. Gerard

Thanks Greg. I have put email settings similar to yours.

It solved the second problem: if somebody asks for an account, I get both an email in my gmail mailbox, and a message in my webtrees page.

But it did not solved the first problem: if somebody clicks on the link at the bottom of webtrees pages "For technical support or genealogy questions, please contact xxxx", I only get a message in my webtrees page, but no email in my gmail mailbox.
Does this feature work for you ?

Check your user setting, the item 'Preferred contact method'.
