media question was created by LindnerFamilyTree
Hello

When I installed webtrees, I ran the installer and everything went as expected.

However I've read of some users having issues with media files/permissions. I looked at my folders and noticed mine were not set to 777 and I had been experiencing issues with media not displaying/being able to be selected. I then changed permissions to 777 on the data/media folders.

One of the attached images shows the folders, file permissions and one image file therein.

The other image shows the admin media page, which shows no images.

As the folder has an image (and it was uploaded via webtrees), is there an easy explanation and fix as to why it still doesn't display via admin media page, nor via Link to an existing media object when attempting to via an individual's page?

In your screenshot, I don't see the folder selector. Did you use it? Is the image already linked or is it UNUSED?

Ah...

I clicked on UNUSED and there it was, with options to link it.

So this is the correct way to upload and link images?

I now have that image allocated to a Family and can see it when logged in.

However in Admin -> Modules -> Tabs

Media is set to show to visitors
Album is set to show to visitors

but neither tab is being displayed to visitors - Is there another option I've missed for the Media/Album tabs to be show to visitors (people that are not logged in)?

It's one way. But the most common way is to add a media object (a genealogy record) directly to a person or fact, and upload the media file at the same time.

but neither tab is being displayed to visitors

Tabs are only shown if either (a) there is content to display or (b) you have edit permission to add new content.

So, perhaps there are no media objects which would be visible to visitors

By content, do you mean simply an image as that has been uploaded (to a family/individual) as I see it via the Media and Album tabs when logged in but not when viewing as a visitor/guest when logged out.

Or by content do you mean something more?

Most likely, you can see it when logged in because you have permission to see it - and the visitor does not.

If the media object is linked to a family, and the family is private (perhaps because one or more members are living), then the media object will also be private, and a visitor will not be able to see it.

That must be it, thanks Greg.

When I had it linked to a family, it only showed the Father and Mother and not the children. One of those children is still living.

I then changed it to link to the father and now it displays under the Father for visitors.

I have another question that I cannot find the answer to, is there an example of how to link/display the image in Notes if I were to use Notes for a brief history on an individual?
