Today I downloaded the archive and uploaded it to my webserver.

When I try to start the installation I get the "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error" message.

When I look into the httpd error_log I see the following messages :

PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_FUNCTION, expecting ')' in /home/html/webtrees/includes/session.php on line 207

PHP Notice: Use of undefined constant __DIR__ - assumed '__DIR__' in /home/html/webtrees/library/autoload.php on line 5

PHP Warning: require_once(__DIR__/composer/autoload_real.php) [<a href='function.require-once'>function.require-once</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/html/webtrees/library/autoload.php on line 5

PHP Fatal error: require_once() [<a href='function.require'>function.require</a>]: Failed opening required '__DIR__/composer/autoload_real.php' (include_path='.:/usr/share/pear:/usr/share/php') in /home/html/webtrees/library/autoload.php on line 5

Solving the first error will probably solve the others.

Line 207 in session.php contains : set_error_handler(function ($errno, $errstr, $errfile, $errline) {

Anybody have a clue to what might be wrong ?

What version of PHP do you have on your server?

Which version of webtrees are you installing?

If you are using PHP5.2 (which is very old), then you can only use webtrees 1.4.

If you are using a more recent version of PHP (5.3, 5.4, 5.5 or 5.6), then you can use the latest version of webtrees, 1.5

Actually it would make sense for the install procedure to check this precondition.
stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v1.7.9

It worked last time I tried it....

When a 500 error occurs, an error message will be written to the webserver (e.g. apache) error log.

Can you find your error logs, and tell us the error message.

Believe it or not, the Error Log shows nothing........... blank.

OK, it was "permissions".

I had changed the directory perm. but not the files.
(Strange it isn't writing to the Error Log)

Now, does every, single file have to be changed to 644?
