I would be interested in knowing what you did to fix Daniel's issue. That could be useful to others. Would you mind to post here the solution?

Hi Stephen,
Someone recently used your password to try to sign in to your Google Account XXXXXXXX@gmail.com. This person was using an application such as an email client or mobile device.
We prevented the sign-in attempt in case this was a hijacker trying to access your account. Please review the details of the sign-in attempt:
So, i reset the email to use my personal mail server and received the internal mail message I sent.
The following message has been sent to your webtrees user account from Stephen Arnold
test
The answer is - the mail is working when properly configured. You must have something set incorrectly.

I am using PHPMail, and I would expect that it would work the same either way.
One area that seemed confusing to me was the, the "Sender name". As per my host it has to be an email address and not a name. I am not sure if this is always the case or not, but it is enforced by my host. The descriptive text "This name is used in the “From” field, when sending automatic emails from this server." did not make this clear. My host claims that this was always in effect, so I am not sure when/how I changed the setting about 6 months ago.

SHARING: after #86
On PHPmail worked well so:
- Administration ==> Family Trees ==> webtrees reply address: doesn't need to be a valid e-mail
- Administration ==> Site configuration ==> mail configuration ==>
* Use PHP mail to send messages
* Sender name: valid e-mail address
* Sending server name: complete URL where system is installed, example: www.genealogy.com/yourfamily
* Other fields doesn't make effects, in this case, I guess.
I couldn't get it work on SMTP, just on PHP mail, but, doesn't matter, it's working, and I'm happy!
Thanks again Jackie - Greg - Stephen and others!
Regards.

Are you trying to send mail using your own server (PHP mail) or using another server such as googlemail?
What settings are you using?
Mail is complicated, and with no information, we cannot help.
