After import a new GEDCOM file I miss some persons. During import I didn't get any error message. Is there a import protocol available?

Best regards

I don’t have much to add since I use webtrees as my only program, but my first thought was to make sure the missing individuals are actually in the GEDCOM.

Open the GEDCOM in a text editor like Notepad, and search for the individual’s last name. You will probably get several. Check each individual found to verify the existence of the lost import.

Import errors of this kind are very rare.

Reply with the findings.

Hello Ken,

thanks for your advise. Meanwhile I am one step further and have found the cause for the failure.

By comparing the data I found out that (INDI) records are going lost without any hint if they contain a dot in the XREF characters.
A dot (0x2E) is one of the allowed characters for a pointer.
If I replace the dot with an underscore, all records will be read correctly. Curiously, the underscore is not one of the allowed characters, as opposed to the dot. :-)

My problem is solved now. It would be helpful if webtrees records the import in a log (number of processed records, made conversions, detected errors, warnings, ...).

FYI, webtrees 2.0 will display these errors during import.

Also, I will modify the validation, to allow "." in XREFs.
