Hello,

I made three new html blocs (in fact one html block in french translated in the two main languages selected by users.

I want to copy/add one of those three blocks to every registered user depending on his language.

The only way i found is : Going to users administration page, select users one by one, Masquerade as this user, customize his page, add html block, go to his home page, edit new added block, add block name and setup block and paste previously copied code then save this block, disconnect.

I than have to connect again, go to admin page and begin the operation for the next user.

Depending on the number of members, this can take a ... very ... long time !

Would there be an easier way to apply my block on users page ?

Would there be a way the make my black a "standard" block on my webtrees install ?

Would there be a way to setup a page for new users ?

Thanks,
Andre

For individuals (as you mentioned,) you can go to "User Administration" and "change the blocks on this user's 'My Page.'"
Alternatively, you can customize the "My Page" blocks from the welcome page after logging on. At the top, find the "My Page" dropdown menu, and go to "customize this page."
You could include a link on this page for additional information for new users. I have something similar at www.adkins.ws/edit.htm (it's a bit overdue for updating.)

What sort of content do you want to add here?

There might be other/better options than HTML blocks....

First exemple (three blocks for this one: french, dutch, english)
Since November 2018, Ghezibde has turned into an association.
By joining Ghezibde, you will be able to participate in the life of our association and support it: join us !
Your membership is welcome ;) !
(Statutes and rules of procedure available in the membership form)

Second example with an iframe (three blocks for this one too: french, dutch, english)
<p style="text-align:center"><iframe frameborder="0" height="150" src="https://pe.ertu.be/videos/embed/8847b750-8213-4668-ab52-6bf1d2336a1c" width="230"></iframe></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p style="text-align:center"><a href="https://pe.ertu.be/video-channels/ghezibde_channel/videos" target="_blank" title="Tous les tutos vidéos Ghezibde" type="html">Tous les tutos vidéos de Ghezibde</a></p>

I want to enhance those two blocks as Right section blocks of every registered user (the 1300 registered users) according to their language.

Am I clear ?

Thanks,
andre

I asked because there are other options.

Perhaps creating a custom block instead of an HTML block.
Perhaps modifying the "user page" to add a message across the top of the page.
Perhaps modifying the login page to show this information.
Perhaps modifying the login script to redirect to the home page after login.
Perhaps adding a footer to every page with this message
etc.

Hello Greg,
Thanks for your answer.
Perhaps creating a custom block instead of an HTML block.
For sure that could be a better way. (in my mind, there where no real differences between those two, just the way it was created and used, i'll look forward to find some documentation about custom blocks on the wiki

Perhaps modifying the "user page" to add a message across the top of the page.
i don't really understand what you mean by add a message accross the top of the page, central column of « My page » ?

Seems to me that block suits better with the nature of data displayed, doesn't it ?

Hi Thomas!
thanks for your answer.
Please have a look at the actual question: my blocks are ok (let you have a look at my welcome page as well). I want to make two custom blocks and include them in every existant user's personalized page. and in all future user's default page.
that's what I tried to sa previously , didn't I (I've been happily using pvg and then webtrees for 15 years now).

thanks, andre

Do you need a web hosting solution for your webtrees site?

Thomas, have I misunderstood your answer? Are you saying that html block is on “your” My page or on every one of your members My pages?

You seem to be implying it is on yours. In which case I wonder if you understand that means you are the ONLY person who can ever see that information. Other members on your site can not access that page. They have their own. You can allow them to have an html block, although they can remove it if they wish, but it will have no content until they choose to add some.

The problem with the original question ( and lots of similar questions over the years, even back to PGV days) is that they misunderstand the purpose of the My page and everything on it. That page only exists as something for your users to add to, edit, and control. It was never intended that you (as admin/ manager) would do anything other than perhaps limit the “blocks” available to your users. They alone decide what content they have there.

Perhaps modifying the login script to redirect to the home page after login.

Hi Greg, could you help with a code snippet. I maintain webtrees for a website of an association where it would be useful to redirect members to the main page after login. Thank you.
