Hi,
The import of a gedcom file hangs.
I think that's because of a bug in my import file. My fault :-(

How can I cancel the import?

There does not seem to be a possibility because the Family tree management functions are no longer available.
I only see the progress bar of the import process, which does not move anymore.

Can I get a tip?
thanks in Advance.

Greating
Dieter

You do not tell me if the progress bar is stuck at zero or stuck at another number.

If zero, then I guess your tree is very large, and webtrees cannot delete the data before the time limit expires. The solution is to manually delete data for this tree from various database tables such as wt_names, wt_link, wt_dates, wt_individuals, wt_families.

If non-zero, then I guess that there is a fatal error - probably caused by corrupt GEDCOM data. The solution is to delete all the rows in the table wt_gedcom_chunk.

Well,
Thanks for your very fast answer. Great!!

I hoped there would be a more elegant solution than breaking into the database. Perhaps an idea for the new version ;-)

The bar stuck at antother number.
The deleting of the rows in the table wt_gedcom_chunk is a solution, that I had successfully tried before, when I imported a new version of an existing tree.
In addition, the offline flag "imported" in the table wt_gedcom_setting had to be reset.

But that does not work, in a newly established one.
The bin-files of the new family tree are all deleted. Nevertheless, the bar stuck.

The offline flag ist reseted and the tree appears in webtrees with the successfully imported individuals (28.000 of 58.000). Familiy-Data are note importet.

Can I delete the whole tree in the database? Deleting the Database is not a solution because I have other trees in the database

BTW Is there a upper limit of the file to be imported?
Greatings

> The bar stuck at antother number.

If there was corrupt GEDCOM data, the import would stop at the same place every time.

I guess you have some other error?

1) Open the developer tools in your browser.
2) Find the "network" tab in the tools.
3) Start the import process
4) You should see one "load" request every 1 or 2 seconds.
5) These should have a status of "200 OK".
6) The final one may have an error status. Examine it carefully. It may contain a helpful error message.

> Can I delete the whole tree in the database?

Control panel -> Family trees -> Manage family trees -> Delete

> BTW Is there a upper limit of the file to be imported?

The importer splits the file into small "chunks" (the wt_gedcom_chunk table), each about 64KB. It then loads these one at a time.

In theory, this design means that there are no limits.

In practise, your server may have problems with files larger than 4GB.

Deleting trees can be a problem with slow databases. The database needs to be able to delete all the records in less than the webserver's timeout limit. i.e. if Apache will only wait 60 seconds for PHP to respond, then MySQL must be fast enough to delete rows from about 10 tables in less than 60 seconds.

Thanks fisharebest

as I wrote first:

Deleting the Family tree over the normal delete funktion in the "manage Family trees" Tab doesn't work bekause there apear only the stuked bar (see file).

Is there another way to delete the tree or is there a possibility that the bar disappears

The only solution is to delete the rows in the table wt_gedcom_chunk

Hi Greg,

thank you very much for your help.

Indeed, chunk files of the failed tree were still present in the table.
After deleting these rows in the table, the bar disappeared.
O.K.

It might be a good idea to offer such a cleanup as a feature. What do you think about?

Greeting
Dieter
