General Search was created by Capt_Frodo
I am currently validating my install of webtrees 1.7.3.

When using the Search, General Search function enter a value of Martin and click on Individuals. (Or Families) The returned report shows the Given Name and Surname (concantenated) in the Given Names column. The Surname column of the report is BLANK.

I am using a gedcom created by FTM 2014. A sample of my Gedcom is provided below:

Some genealogy programs (wrongly!) create GEDCOM files without the space between given names and surnames. e.g.

1 NAME John/Smith/
or even
1 NAME John/Smith

Thus, this gets displayed as JohnSmith

webtrees doesn't automatically add spaces, because some languages don't use spaces. e.g. Chinese names.

But since there are a few programs that do this, webtrees has a utility (Control panel -> modules -> batch update -> fix name slashes and spaces) to repair these.

However, the GEDCOM snippet you posted *DOES* contain a space, and should display as such. I'm a bit surprised when you say it doesn't, as this should not happen. The names should be displayed exactly as formatted in the NAME record.

You don't post the URL of your site. It might be helpful to let us see exactly what you see.

I am doing my evaluation on a Laptop in my home and have not opened a pin hole to it yet.

Trying to attach a screenshot of what I see.
This is actually the html returned from webtrees.

Thanks for helping.

The attached file shows two Martins - both of which have a space between given and family names - which is what I'd expect from the GEDCOM posted above.

> The returned report shows the Given Name and Surname (concantenated) in the Given Names column. The Surname column of the report is BLANK.

Perhaps create a screendump?

I used the Print Screen button and then saved the file.

What would be easiest way to get a screen dump?

if the ext of the file I sent was changed to html would you be able to see what I see?

When you reply to this post, there will be a button to attach (and then insert) this file.

> if the ext of the file I sent was changed to html would you be able to see what I see?

Nope - I already renamed it to .html in order to view it in a web browser.

I use the Mozilla add-on "Screengrab", which allows you to get a full page image or screen image or a part of your screen by selection. You may save the image in jpeg format or png.

Nope - that's not an error.

The column *contents* show the NAME field (which contains both given and surname)

The column *heading* is split into two, allowing you to click on it and sort by either the GIVN or SURN fields.

So, you have two headings for one column.
