After upgrade to 1.7.8 error HTTP500 was created by BoaterSteve
Hi All,
Since doing the auto upgrade yesterday, which showed on screen that all went well, on going to the main menu it now comes up HTTP500.

I have manually downloaded the zip file and transferred all files to the server overwriting all files.
Still the same error.

I have checked that there is no 'offline.txt' file.

I also checked PHP version which reports Current PHP version: 5.3.28

Is there something that I am missing, or have not done?

Best regards
Steve

When you see "Error 500", there will almost certainly be a helpful error message in your webserver (not webtrees) error logs.

Can you find these logs and tell us the error message.

Thanks for the reply. I will go and find them.

This is what IE says now:

The website cannot display the page HTTP 500

Most likely causes:
•The website is under maintenance.
•The website has a programming error.

Hi Again. I have downloaded the log file off of my server and attached it below.
I have changed my full web host address to MYHOST.com

In the log you can see that it goes through the upgrade and then fails with error 500.

Does this help?

Your webserver will (usually!) produce two log files.

The access log (which shows all requests)
The error log (which shows all errors)

The file you attached in the *access log*.

Can you find the error log?

Under logs using FTP and Log Manager on the hosts Hosting Portal there is only that report. Or is it because the host is BT!
I can run the following:
www.pyrfordbasin.co.uk/webtrees/CheckVer.php
which is the following scipt:
<?php
// prints e.g. 'Current PHP version: 4.1.1'
echo 'Current PHP version: ' . phpversion();

// prints e.g. '2.0' or nothing if the extension isn't enabled
echo phpversion('tidy');
?>
and it works ok.

Oh well. Maybe I have to delete everything off of the host and start again!

I guess your host is not providing you with the error logs.

Without the error message, it is really hard to work out what is going wrong.

Are you able to change any PHP settings? Perhaps with a php.ini file or a .htaccess file?

If so, you may be able to change the "display_errors" setting ton "on".

PHP 5.3 is antiquated. It stopped receiving security patches 2.5 years ago.

An update on my predicament.

I created a new directory on server. Downloaded an earlier version, then ran that from the new directory and it worked.

I deleted all of the files off of the original directory, and re-installed 1.7.8 and it now all works.

Unfortunately, I cannot do anything about the version of PHP that my host (BT) is running!

Thank you for your help and keep up the good work.

If they are uncooperative, maybe you need a new host?
