I am unable to reach my site zeidmanfamily.com. I have not been there for a while and I know that the installation software that was used to install it (Installatron) does upgrade by itself so I don't know what version I am on.

When I go to the site I am prompted to download a file called "download". If I enter www.zeidmanfamily.com/index.php I am prompted to download index.php.

I have not changed the permissions on my site recently (or ever as far as I can recall).

Is anybody able to help me with this?

Thanks

David

Unless I'm mistaken, webtrees will NOT upgrade by itself, but will ask permission. No permission, no upgrade.
Can you access the site via FTP? It sounds like PHP is not installed or not working properly, and this would need to be addressed to your host.

This happened once before and looking back through my emails it appears that at that time apache had crashed on the server. I have contacted the hosting provider to see if they have an update about this.

Your webserver (apache) is not associating files ending in .PHP with the PHP interpreter.

It is a webserver configuration problem.

It *might* be caused by a custom .htaccess file. Specifically, it identifies the file as "application/x-httpd-php5". Perhaps your server has been upgraded from PHP5 to PHP7, and your webserver cannot find PHP5 any more.

Either way, this is a question for your web host.

Thank you everybody for your help.

This was in fact an issue with the .htaccess file.

Fisharebest you were spot on! I had a reference to application/x-httpd-php55. That used to work but then that version was removed I believe or at least that server no longer supported multiple versions of php.

I am now on a new server that does support multiple versions and am currently pointing at 5.6. I have the option of pointing to 7.0. Will webtrees support this? Is there a benefit to pointing to that version?

Thanks again

Yes.

It is faster.
