Probably this bug, which was fixed in (I think) 1.7.3

github.com/fisharebest/webtrees/issues/704 - "1.7.2 "Undefined offset: 2" Editing Name Fact "

Is there a reason you can't upgrade?

Thank you

Right! I cannot upgrade now until I accept 'Pending Changes' - which of course I can not do

You cannot do an *automatic* upgrade.

The automatic upgrade cannot know if the new version uses a different database structure which might not be compatible with the current system of pending changes.

I can confirm that 1.7.2 and 1.7.8 are compatible in this regard.

So, you'll simply need to do a manual upgrade.

It's the same as the initial install. Unzip the file and copy to the server using FTP.

I have downloaded 1.7.8 and FTP'd it to the server, placing it in a folder named 'genealogy178' (I renamed the original to genealogyOLD)

I'm getting the following screens...

imgur.com/yIZ3EIO

imgur.com/nl5hrc1

imgur.com/1NPSM2W

I've spoke to my hosting tech support and it's not giving any error, they suggested that perhaps it needs something but isn't asking

I also tried v. 1.7.9 but I'm getting the same result

Thanks in advance for any advice

Well, the instructions were to upload the files, overwriting the existing ones.

(By all means make a backup of the folder first....)

That's what the upgrade wizard does - it downloads the .ZIP file, and unpacks it over the existing files.

What are you trying to achieve here?
Do you want to create a new installation and then somehow migrate the data from the old to the new?

Did you enter the *same* database details as you did for the original installation?
Did the setup wizard create a file data/config.ini.php?

I am trying to create a new installation and will copy the data - I'd like to have a complete backup online

No, I created a new DB but it didn't get to the point to ask for details

The setup wizard only gave me the 3 screens you see in the post when I get to the blank screen I'm stuck

I didn't want to overwrite the original family tree but will be happy to do so if you think that will work better I saved a GEDCOM before I began

I had to do a manual upgrade (unpacking the zipped folder) due to the original error and my concern in overwriting the original installation was that I would overwrite the config file

The config file is tiny, and just contains the database connection information. If you ever lose it, you can run the setup wizard again, and it will recreate it (without touching the actual database).

All settings/data/configuration live in the database. The only things not in the database are media files (data/media/...), any module-specific files (e.g. flags for googlemap), and any local customisation (modules, themes).

A full site backup consists of a database dump (e.g. using PhpMyAdmin) and a copy of all the files. Both are easy to do.

It's hard to know what is going wrong in your second installation. The setup wizard is trying to use the DB information to test the connection. There is lots of error handling here, which should catch every possible error(!)

Thank you

Yes, I have a sql backup and I've downloaded a copy of all my media

I suspect it may be getting stuck when attempting to generate the config file - will this not be the same when I overwrite the files

Where can I find the config file - could I take a copy and upload it after the new version has overwritten the old files

This file won't get overwritten, as it is not included in the distribution files...

If it is not present, then webtrees assumes a new install and redirects to the setup wizard (which creates it).
If it is present, then the setup wizard will refuse to run.

> Where can I find the config file

data/config.ini.php

Thank you so much for your assistance today fisharebest, it was greatly appreciated

I am up and running again. I was almost despairing a one point and totally frustrated I began looking for an alternative

I couldn't find anything that looks as well and works as well (when it's not broken) as webtrees - I love it!

Thank you!!
