Hi,

I tried to add Not Married tag _NMR to family facts in the configuration page. After enabling it, it appears in the comma-separated list. But it does not show up in the pull-down list under families. And if I refresh the configuration page it disappears from the list of options. So somehow it silently fails to be configured. If I add the fieild directly in the gedcom file it shows up in the family facts.

Hope someone can help.

There are several places to add this. (Family facts, Unique family facts, Quick family facts).
Which one did you edit?
What was the value before/after your edit?
Are there any messages in the webtrees logs to say that this value was updated (or that an error occured).

I added the tag to Unique Family Fact. I can select the checkbox for the tag and when I save it, it appears on the list. But when I refresh the screen, it disappears. When I search the log there are no entries with type = error. I made a mistake by the way, I use 1.7.9 and not 1.7.8 so it is in the wrong section.

I recently upgraded Apache2 on Debian Jessie (8.x) from PHP 5.6 to PHP 7.1, but 7.1 is not yet an official release for Debian Jessie, but it is from the same person that maintain Debian PHP packages. But I guess I could try to switch back and see if it is related to some PHP version issue.

According to the Wiki - wiki.webtrees.net/en/Gedcom551_vs_webtrees_tags#NMR
_NMR is a *family* tag - it means a couple is not married.
_NMAR is an *individual* tag - it means the individual never married.

If you simply add ",_NMR" to the "unique family facts", does it also disappear when you refresh?

I just tried this, and it works OK for me.

Please check *all* entries - not just error. Each configuration changes should be listed. You should see an entry for

Tree preference "FAM_FACTS_QUICK" set to "MARR,DIV,_NMR"

There are no configuration change messages in the log. I assume it is the webserver log search options we are talking about, and not some log file I dont know about ?

I changed php back to version 5.6.30 but that gave same result.

Could it be the way I install webtrees ? I cannot run the automatic updates so I install i manually as root. Then I do a "chown -fR www-data:www-data ./webtrees" to change ownership to Apache2 user:group, and then I do a "chmod -fR 644 on all files. I wonder if it is file permissions that get in the way here ? Is there some file having changed its contents during the process ? And if yes which ones ? And maybe permissions shoulw be different ?

@janthe I'm going to guess that the problem is far simpler than you are imaging. So if I am right forget all issues about webtrees version, PHP version, upgrading, database issues etc.

First, you said: "I added the tag to Unique Family Fact."
Then, you said: "... it does not show up in the pull-down list under families"

Explanation: To add an item to the drop down list add it to "Family facts". To add it to the list displayed below / beside the drop-down add it to "Quick family facts". Adding it to "Unique family facts, " doe not make it display anywhere, it simply ensures that the tag can only be used once per family record ("unique"). You must add it to "Family facts" as well.

A second point which might be relevant. If you make it a "Unique fact", when you view "Add facts" on the page of a family that already has one _NMR tag, the tag will NOT appear in any list. That is good, as you cannot add a second "_NMR tag in that case.

Just maybe: the config panel screens have a SAVE button which is quite easy to overlook.
stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v1.7.9

Thanks for your suggestions. I tried them and I can add _NMR tag in the menu and save, but when I refresh the screen it is gone and opening the edit menu, indeed it is not checked anymore. I guess I will have to edit GEDCOM directly for the time being.

I wonder if anyone knows how to debug such a problem ? There is no trace in the webtrees web log.

Hi Bert, indeed you are right. It is not enough to save under the various family facts after having saved the checkbox. You have to save also the config page.
I feel like an idiot :-) It works now as intended I guess. Not the most intuitive thing to save and then have to save agin to have it saved. But I guess that is just something I have to remember.

Thanks to everyone who spent time helping me :
