block Ip adres was created by jopla
Hello,

How can I block an user on bese of it's IP adres? Now I do it with an .htaccess file, but I cannot imagine that it isn't possible to do it within webtrees. But where and how?

Thanks.

If the user has already visited your site, you will find the IP address in the site access rules.

Edit the entry, and change the rule to block access. You should also change the user agent string to '%' (match all).

Strange, I was searching there, but the IPv4 what I found in de list from "Statcounter" is not shown in that list. And Piwik showes an IPv66 address ... but IPv6 is not shown in the site access rules ... or I cannot find them.

Any idea?

Hi Greg,

Do you have any idea why I cannot find the IP adres?
Thanks for reaction,

Jop

1) This IP has never visited your site.
2) This IP is matched by an existing rule.

I presume it will be nr 2. I blocked the IP address in the .htaccess file and I didn't saw this address anymore in my statcounter and piwik results.

But are IPv6 addresses shown in webtrees?

The "access rules" logic was added a long time ago - before IPv6 was widely used.

It simply ignores IPv6.

The site-access-rules was added because we must prevent search engines from visiting some pages (e.g. calendar.php). There are better solutions to this problem. The site-access-rules will be removed in a future release of webtrees.

Ok, thanks for your reaction. That will be the reason probably, that it was an IPv6 address. As long there isn't another possibility (and what I understand between your words, there will be also none in the future) I will use the .htaccess file to prvent this kind of visitors.
