Recently (About July 24th) the website crashed, or at least was unavailable on my comouter.
A Mac.
In Chrome I get an HTML500 error trying to load. And in Firefox, I get a blank page.
My co-administrator has been experiencing the same sort of access errors on hs PC. sportsage.net/stiehm
Ironically, I can access the site fully on my iPad.
Not sure where to go.
Could anyone try my site, see if it works, and make any suggestions?
Server is running PHP 5.5.38
URL: sportsage.net/stiehm
Thanks.

sportsage.net is currently unable to handle this request.

Apologies for short answer. On holiday with very little internet access.
1) 500 errors will usually have a helpful message in your webserver (e.g. apache) error log.
2) My guess is that you installed PHP7, but you did not install all the PHP7 extensions. Try a clean install of webtrees in a temporary folder. This will check for missing extensions.

I run a second site . . . sportsage.net/family Running 1.7.3 . . .
It works.
This one: sportsage.net/stiehm Running 1.7.9 doesn't.
Before we jump to conclusions . . . PHP 7 was added AFTER install.
So . . .
1) I know I should be able to find them here somewhere, but where are instructions to do a fresh install that will mot lose data or images?
2) WHY would the Stiehm Family work perfectly on my iPad but fail to open on a computer?

"PHP 7" isn't specific enough. Exactly which version?
See: www.webtrees.net/index.php/en/forum/help...ng-please-help#64704 where it says "webtrees 1.7 only officially supports PHP 5.3 -> 7.0"

So what messages did you find in your server log?

Second, I'm thinking a reinstall may work, but with 100+ users, photos, and 15K individuals, I don't want to risk losing anything, so Can you direct me to instructions for a re-install?

Your server appears to be using Microsoft IIS webserver. I have very little experience with this, but this article seems to show how to enable logging and where to find the logs stackoverflow.com/questions/6426375/wher...-i-find-the-iis-logs
It really would be helpful to enable/find your error logs to solve both this and other/future problems.
You could try creating a second clean install of webtrees. If this works, then copy your media files (the folder /data) from the old site to the new site and then copy your data from the old database to the new database.
If this works, delete the old/broken site, and rename the new one to the old one.

A couple of other things:
1) If I set up a new site and it works, I think I could handle copying my data and media files over, but how do I retain my 100+ users?
I can still access the site on my iPad using Safari and Chrome browsers.

Your users' accounts are, like your genealogy data, stored in the database.
Copy the database from the old installation to the new one.

A quick question.
In 1.7.9, how do I change the default page layout for visitors?

Visit this home page. (Main menu, Family trees, ...)
From the (very) top menu, choose My pages -> Customise this page
