Is there an easy way to increase the depth of the area where the interactive chart is displayed? Closing the sidebar gives plenty of width but it seems quite cramped vertically.

Many thanks

Paul.

It's set in the CSS file.

I seem to remember it is set to "95vh", meaning it can be up to 95% of the height of the screen. You wouldn't want it larger than that.

Either I haven't asked the right question or something isn't working right. Here's a screen grab showing the 'viewport' used for an interactive tree - it's about 1/3 the page/screen depth, although the canvas containing the tree might be 95% of the page depth if that's what you mean?

I looked at the (unmodified) css in the /themes/colors/css-1.78 directory (I'm using version 1.79 but maybe this dir name is a hangover from an updrade?) but couldn't find the '95vh' mentioned. The css file is 64k and appears without line breaks on my system so isn't easy to follow!

I'd like to expand the area indicated to reduce the amount of dragging required and to see connections more easily.

Cheers

Paul

I have observed that the vertical space seems to be calculated on the required space for only one or two generations of ascendants / descendants. While navigating the vertical space is not expanded.

Example of an individual with a small space: stamboom.bertkoor.nl/module.php?mod=tree...id=I122&ged=BertKoor
The father of this person gets the whole screen: stamboom.bertkoor.nl/module.php?mod=tree...tid=I77&ged=BertKoor
And the grandfather gets even more space: stamboom.bertkoor.nl/module.php?mod=tree...tid=I58&ged=BertKoor

So a solution for you could be to switch to another person while navigating the interactive tree.
stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v1.7.9

The CSS sets a MIN and MAX height, which is dependent on the original content.

The chart is shown in three contexts:

full-page
individual tab
home-page

Is there a height that would work in all three, or will we need three sets of formatting?

Thanks for the replies :D

@bertkoor: I hadn't noticed just how much it varies before! I suppose switching to another person may or may not help depending upon the number of ancestors/descendants they have but I'd prefer to keep the focus on the person of interest.
@fisharebest: I've only used the chart in an individual's tab so I can't comment on the other views. Would it be possible to make the chart depth a fixed value, in pixels, as an admin option (probably need to be an option for desktop and mobile devices though I'm guessing).

Many thanks,

Paul

For the individual tab and full-page, then setting the height to, say 75% of the page height might work OK.

For the home page block, then perhaps a fixed number of pixels, but with a maximum based on the page height?

> an admin option

No. These are theme settings.

Do you need a web hosting solution for your webtrees site?

75% of page height seems reasonable to me and certainly better than a variable-size area which can end up quite small.

@PaulR
Maybe you are satisfied with my little module that allows you to switch the tree to full screen?

Please check it: github.com/UksusoFF/webtrees-tree_view_full_screen
