Hi,
I am using ASSO and RELA to indicate non-familiar associations between people.
Example (in GEDCOM):
0 @I5@ INDI
1 CHR
2 ASSO @I6@
3 RELA godmother
in German: "Patin" bei der Taufe

My problem is, that the ASSO is a one way pointer; looking at @I6@ in my example I don't see, that this individual has an association to @I5@.
There is even no report that shows the ASSOs.

One solution could be the generation of a corresponding ASSO automatically (i.E. adding 2 ASSO @I5@ ; 3 RELA <opposite of godmother> in the @I6@ record.
But how would these ASSOs be shown in WebTrees? There I would like to see a new tab "Associations" which lists all entered associations and automatically generated associations.

How do you think about this?
Or is there another way to solve my "problem"?

Kind regards, Peter

webtrees shows the association link at both "ends"

For example, the baptism of Queen Elizabeth (dev.webtrees.net/demo-stable/individual.php?pid=I1&ged=demo) has an association to her godparents.

If you visit the page of a godparent (dev.webtrees.net/demo-stable/individual.php?pid=i7&ged=demo) and tick the box to show "Events of close relatives", then the baptism is also shown on his page.

Thank you!

I never realized, that there is a check box near to "Events of close relatives"!
Sometimes it's so easy!!!

Problem solved.

No. Problem is not solved. Only the first ASSO is linked, the other ones are not.

Taking the same example of the baptism of Queen Elizabeth (dev.webtrees.net/demo-stable/individual.php?pid=I1&ged=demo). There are 6 godparents, click on any one except the first one (King George V), and there is NO backward link anywhere to be found.

This is an old problem with webtrees and ASSO. And it affects all associated people, not just godparents but also the witnesses, classmates, attending physicians, etc. Only the first on the list is linked backward to the person's event - all the others are not.

There was a bug report few years back about this problem. I hope we may get the solution at some point.

In the meantime to remedy the problem, I create an event for an ASSO person. Using Princess Mary of Teck as an example it would look something like this

EVEN Baptism
TYPE Godmother
DATE 29 MAY 1926
PLAC City of Westminster, London, England
ADDR The Chapel at Buckingham Palace
ASSO I1 - if I1 is Queen Elizabeth II's ID number

You have to do it for each person on the list (except the first one). Only then the ASSO will show the backward links.

Hi
Really [NOT SOLVED]!!
I tested it and also the second ASSO godfather had a correct backlink, but it only seemed to be correct as the godfather was the Grandfather of the origin and was shown as ASSO therefore!

Then I tested it with two new ASSOs with non relatives - You are right! Only the first backlink exists!

My first attemption was an enhancement. But now I call it a severe error and hope for a quick solution!

Kind regards Peter

This is issue 1192.

If you don't want to wait for a fix, which will hopefully be included in the next webtrees release, you can use my custom module in the meantime. It provides a modified version of the 'Facts and Events' tab, where this bug is fixed. It also displays the inverse association, if there is one (e.g. 'godson' for 'godfather'), and the inverse relationship.
