I have successfully migrated from PGV 4.2.4 (PHP 5.4.45) to WT 1.7.2 using provided wizard.
What would be the best way to transfer the media files (this isn't supported by the wizard).

- Greetings from Utrecht, Holland
I clicked "Wiki" from the top menu here, then searched for "Media" and these are the relevant pages:
wiki.webtrees.net/en/Converting_from_PhpGedView
This transfer wizard is not able to assist with moving media items. You will need to set up your media configuration in webtrees and move or copy your media objects separately after the transfer wizard is finished. webtrees stores media files slightly differently to PGV. See the Media Firewall page for details.
And that indeed doesn't lead anywhere. Perhaps this is a better page in the wiki about this subject:
wiki.webtrees.net/en/Media_Management
But you can configure where your media files from PGV were stored, and link them again.
stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v2.1.20

Copy them from where they are now, to where they need to go?
We don't know how you have configured either PGV or webtrees, so we cannot give you a folder name. PGV allowed you to include (or exclude) the media path. It also allowed media files to be in multiple locations. Only you know where your files are now.
Also, we don't know whether or not your media files (as defined in your GEDCOM data) contain paths, etc.
For webtrees, you can see the "Media folder" setting in the family tree preferences page. The filenames referenced in your GEDCOM file should be placed here.

I haven't specifically configured anything.
Could you please let me know what information you need and I'll provide it?

Find two folders.
1) where are your media files now?
2) what is the "Media folder", defined in the family tree preferences.
Copy all the files from (1) into (2).

2) /home/elfersi/www/webtrees/data/ then media/
I've copied all the files from 1) to 2)
But when I click any individual X, it says: 'The file “media/X.JPG” does not exist."
Can you please help?

1 FILE media/X.JPG
In PGV, this path "media/" was optional. X.JPG was treated the same as media/X.JPG.
If this is the case, you need to remove "media/" from each of your files. There's a qucik/easy way to do this. Export your data to a GEDCOM file. Import it again - but when you do, there is an option "media path to remove". Enter "media/"

If I'd found Greg's post sooner, I could have saved myself a lot of time, and very nearly an attempt at manually editing the mySQL data...which likely would not have gone well.
Thanks, Greg!
